I know, I'm a bit late jumping on the band wagon since this kinda was 2011's Summer hit...
I'd heard this song on the radio but never realised it was by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera (the combo might seem odd until you know that Adam Levine and Christina were/are both judges on the Voice). Anyways, once I knew the artists, I had to download it - pretty cool song! Until you can't get it out of your head for 3 days straight, that is... ;-)

Rock chick

Sinds vorige week zit ik op basgitaarles, iets wat ik al een tijdje wilde. Het drummen heb ik voorlopig even in de koelkast gezet om me hierop te kunnen storten.

Máár... spelen wordt moeilijk zonder instrument. Dus ben ik vandaag, als vervroegd verjaardagskado van pa en ma, een basgitaar uit wezen zoeken :)

I started bass guitar lessons last week, something I've been wanting to do for a while now. For the time being, I've stopped with my drum lessons so I can focus on this.

But... in order to play, you need an instrument. So today I went to the music store to get myself a bass guitar, an early birthday present from my parents :)

And this is my new toy.

Now all I have to do is learn how to play it...

Dancing in the Streets

Wat is er leuker dan naar een Motown Tribute show gaan? Naar een Motown Tribute show gaan met korting :)

Een tijdje terug kreeg ik een mailing van het Luxortheater om met korting kaarten te bestellen voor de show Dancing in the Streets. Als soul-liefhebber natuurlijk een geweldige aangelegenheid!

Het was een lekker swingende show met, naar mijn mening, 1 'maar' - de Jackson 5 (toch 1 van Motown's grootste acts) kwamen niet aan bod. Jammer.

Hairspray - the musical

De film Hairspray vind ik helemaal geweldig, dus toen bekend werd dat er een Nederlandse versie in het theater kwam wilde ik best, bij wijze van uitzondering, mijn aversie tegen musicals overboord zetten.

Donderdag was het zover: ik en vriendin B gingen naar de laatste try-out in het Luxor. Het had nog wel even wat voeten in aarde, want B wist maar nét voordat de zaal dichtging naar binnen te rennen. Toch altijd fijn, het verkeer in en rond Rotterdam...

De eerste 5 seconden was ik een klein beetje teleurgesteld, want niet Arjan Ederveen maar Richard Groenendijk speelde die avond de rol van Edna. Maar dat was snel voorbij, want hij deed het zo ontzettend leuk! (en met plat Rotterdams accent) Ook de actrices die Tracy en Penny speelden waren erg goed (en vooral Penny ook errug grappig).

Het was echt een supervoorstelling, we hebben ontzettend moeten lachen en ik wilde nóg wel een keer!

Dus... ben ik gisteravond uit mijn werk bij de kassa van het Luxor wezen vragen of er nog kaartjes waren, en dat was zo. En zo zat ik voor de 2e achtereenvolgende avond in het nieuwe Luxor :)

Deze avond speelde Arjan Ederveen wel, maar weet je? Stiekem vond ik Richard veel leuker!

Hiatus

Er is een hoop gebeurd de laatste maand...

a) 6/4: het verhuisbedrijf komt 140 (!) verhuisdozen brengen. Ik kan ze leeg niet eens kwijt, laat staan VOL...
b) 16/4: met de medestudenten van Chinese les uit eten bij Taiwu. Gezellig!
En: de hypotheek is ein-de-lijk rond!
c) 17/4: met Barbara naar het Zwanenmeer in het Nieuwe Luxor. Schitterende decors en kostuums. Echt de moeite waard.
d) 20/4: het gaat de goede kant op met Baloo. Ze vreet inmiddels als een dijker en is van 600g weer aangekomen tot ruim 800g. De wond is dicht en haar haartjes groeien weer terug. Ze is niet meer in de race voor 'lelijkste caviaatje' ;)
e) 22/4: controle-afspraak bij de internist. Zowel m'n B12 als vitamine D zijn nog steeds aan de lage kant. Voor 22/5 een afspraak gemaakt voor een maagonderzoek. Woohoo - NOT.
f) 27/4: inspectie van het huis i.v.m. passeren bij de notaris.
g) 29/4: laatste werkdag ivm klussen in het huis. Ik ga pas 2 juni weer aan het werk!
h) 1/5: De Grote Dag - passeren bij de notaris. Nu is er geen weg meer terug, het huis is van MIJ.
i) 2/5: 1e klusdag.
j) 6/5: de keuken wordt eruit gesloopt.
k) 7/5: laminaat en tapijt besteld.
l) 9/5: muren van de keuken gestuct.
m) 10/5: moederdag gevierd bij opa & oma.

A lot has happened the past month...
a) 6/4: the moving company brought 140 (!) boxes. I don't even have room for them empty, let alone filled...
b) 16/4: dinner at Taiwu with my fellow Chinese students. Fun!
Also: the mortgage is finally settled!
c) 17/4: attend Swan Lake with Barbara. Gorgeous costumes and scenery. Well worth it.
d) 20/4: Baloo is doing so much better. She has a healthy appetite and has gained back weight from 600g to well over 800g. The wound has healed and her hair is growing back. She no longer is in the running for 'ugliest cavy' ;)
e) 22/4: doctor's appointment at the hospital. Both my B12 and vitamin D are low. Scheduled an appointment for an endoscopy on 22/5. Woohoo - NOT.
f) 27/4: inspection of the house because of the notary appointment in a few days.
g) 29/4: last working day for well over a month. I'm not back to work until 2/6.
h) 1/5: the Big Day - appointment at the notary to officially obtain the house. There isn't a way back now anymore, it's MINE.
i) 2/5: 1st DIY-day.
j) 6/5: kitchen-demolition-day.
k) 7/5: ordered new flooring throughout the house.
l) 9/5: walls plastered in the kitchen.
m) 10/5: celebrated Mother's Day at my grandparents' house.

Muse

Na de boeken en de film was het tijd voor muziek: de Twilight soundtrack. En ik heb er meteen een nieuwe obsessie bij: Muse. Al ken ik slechts 1 liedje van ze, Supermassive Black Hole.

Mijn soort muziek: stevige beats en snerpende gitaren :)
(al is de video niet helemaal mijn ding...)


Ook Robert Pattinson heeft een nummer op de soundtrack - Never Think.
Helemaal niet onaardig! Beetje folk-, country-achtig.



After having read the books and having seen the movie (twice!), it was time for some music. So I got the Twilight soundtrack. Which brought on an entirely NEW obsession: Muse, even though I only know 1 of their songs, Supermassive Black Hole.

It totally rocks! My type of music: beating drums and screaming guitars :)
(although I must admit the music video isn't really my taste...)

Robert Pattinson also has a song on the soundtrack - Never Think.
Not bad at all, a bit folksy, country & western-y...

Reduced Shakespeare Company rules!

Vanavond met moeders naar The Reduced Shakespeare Company's nieuwe show 'Completely Hollywood' geweest in de Stoep. Ik heb hun eerdere show 'The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)' 2x live gezien en ook op DVD aangeschaft. Ze zijn echt hilarisch! Helaas begaf de batterij van m'n fototoestel het net toen ze na de show in de foyer waren...



My mom and I saw the Reduced Shakespeare Company's new show 'Completely Hollywood' tonight. I've seen their previous show 'The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)' live twice and even got their DVD. They are simply hilarious! Unfortunately the batteries of my camera died when I wanted to take a picture of them in the foyer afterwards...
