- langer slapen, m.a.w. vaker rond 11 uur naar bed ipv rond half 1...
- maandagochtend zwemmen weer oppakken.
Gewoon gezond(er) eten en that's it.
Didn't do much blogging last year due to moving, sick pets, work and taking courses.
Speaking of moving: that was one of my resolutions for 2009. And behold: I signed the contract within 3 months and moved in less than 7 months.
For 2010 I've come up with quite a list of resolutions, though they (hopefully) have less impact that last year's:
- more sleep, i.o.w. go to bed around 11 i/o around 1.30...
- get up a bit earlier during the week (6.30) so I have enough time to get everything done before going to work.
- bring my own lunch to work on tue/wed/fri i/o going to the company restaurant or getting a sandwich outside.
- spend at least 2 hrs a week on Chinese.
- spend at least 3 hrs a week on my CDCS-course (Certified Document Checking Specialist - exams are in april!).
- spend at least 1 hr a week playing drums.
- pick up swimming on Monday morning again.
- all in all try to live a more structured life.
- cuddle with the cavies more often (they've been neglected somewhat in that department as of late...)
- take up scrapbooking again (that has also been on hold lately).
- make a start on my to-read stack of books.
- blog more often.
- get a new tattoo with dad.
- stop focussing so much on weight and just try to eat more healthily. Losing weight will just make the new wardrobe I bought last year obsolete...
- finally visit China!
- meet the man of my dreams?? (sorry, wishful thinking :) )
Things I want to continue to do in 2010:
- my weekly box/bag of organic veggies.
- spend less on scrapbooking stuff (it sure helps that I don't live across from one anymore...), but still visit some of the major craft fairs.
- read fanfiction (although perhaps a bit less obsessively??)
- keep track of my vitamin-intake since it's been determined that I have a deficiency in vitamin D and B12.
- working. Seems logical, but in the course of this year RBS NL will downsize from approx 1400 to 600 jobs...

Baloo

Hairspray - the musical

The King of Pop is no more

There are these events that, even years later, you still remember where you were when they occurred: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the death of Princess Diana, 9/11...
Recently, I had to add another one to my list: the death of Michael Jackson.
On June 26th, a friend of mine got married. After the ceremony, another friend and I drove to the party when she almost casually said: "Can you believe that about Michael?" "Um, Michael who? What do you mean?" "Well, Michael Jackson, he died yesterday!"
I seriously thought for a minute that she was kidding. Of course I'd never expected him to live forever, but this was so completely unexpected. I mean, he was only 50!
Oddly enough it has affected me more that I expected. He was such a part of my youth. One of the first records I bought from my allowance was 'We Are The World'. I got a CD-player for my 12th birthday and my very first (and for a while only) CD was 'BAD'. I must have driven my folks insane with how many times I played it... The walls in my room were covered with his posters. That same friend and I went to see 'Moonwalk' at the theater. At the end was some kind of concert scene, and we vowed to go to his concert if he were to come to the Netherlands. A few years later, in '92, she, her boyfriend and I were screaming his lyrics at the Kuip stadium.
Since then Michael has moved to the background. My musical taste changed and the fact that he started acting weirder and weirder didn't exactly help matters.
Today was the memorial service in Los Angeles, which was broadcast live at several stations. I'll admit that I got teary-eyed more than once. The fact that he is no longer here inexplicably saddens me...
One thing is certain: he was unsurpassed as an artist and paved the way for an entire generation of (black) artists. Fortunately he leaves behind an impressive musical legacy.

Back online!
Het was écht even behelpen!
Máár... sinds vanavond ben ik weer online! Woohoo!
Moving day was on June 22nd and all went relatively smoothly (sure, the kitchen isn't finished yet, and I still have lots of boxes to unpack, but still)
One of the lesser sides was that I've been internetless for a few weeks... Although that was perfectly normal only a few years ago, I now felt completely disconnected from the world. You don't realise how much we've come to rely on the internet: for managing your finances, consulting route planners (I'm one of few Dutch folks who doesn't own a TomTom...), socializing, following the news... It was so inconvenient!
However... as of tonight, I'm back online! Woohoo!

Hiatus
a) 6/4: het verhuisbedrijf komt 140 (!) verhuisdozen brengen.
Gezellig!
Woohoo - NOT.
i) 2/5: 1e klusdag.
j) 6/5: de keuken wordt eruit gesloopt.
k) 7/5: laminaat en tapijt besteld.
l) 9/5: muren van de keuken gestuct.
m) 10/5: moederdag gevierd bij opa & oma.
A lot has happened the past month...
a) 6/4: the moving company brought 140 (!) boxes. I don't even have room for them empty, let alone filled...
b) 16/4: dinner at Taiwu with my fellow Chinese students. Fun!
Also: the mortgage is finally settled!
c) 17/4: attend Swan Lake with Barbara. Gorgeous costumes and scenery. Well worth it.
d) 20/4: Baloo is doing so much better. She has a healthy appetite and has gained back weight from 600g to well over 800g. The wound has healed and her hair is growing back. She no longer is in the running for 'ugliest cavy' ;)
e) 22/4: doctor's appointment at the hospital. Both my B12 and vitamin D are low. Scheduled an appointment for an endoscopy on 22/5. Woohoo - NOT.
f) 27/4: inspection of the house because of the notary appointment in a few days.
g) 29/4: last working day for well over a month. I'm not back to work until 2/6.
h) 1/5: the Big Day - appointment at the notary to officially obtain the house. There isn't a way back now anymore, it's MINE.
i) 2/5: 1st DIY-day.
j) 6/5: kitchen-demolition-day.
k) 7/5: ordered new flooring throughout the house.
l) 9/5: walls plastered in the kitchen.
m) 10/5: celebrated Mother's Day at my grandparents' house.

Art Specially Event
This weekend the Art Specially Event is being held in Zeist. It's one of my favorite craft shows because it mainly focusses on rubber stamping (and a bit a scrapbooking as well). Jessica didn't want to come because she doesn't use rubber stamps much and Alexandra had already spent her 'allowance' last week in London. So off I went by myself.
It was unbelievably crowded. I couldn't even find an empty parkingspot so I parked my car on the side of the road and crossed my fingers that it wouldn't be towed (small possibility with all the other cars that were ALSO parked there - it would have kept A LOT of tow trucks busy to get rid of all of them...)
Inside it was insane as well. I did get some cool things (some unmounted stamps and the March issue of Creating Keepsakes that I never received despite my subscription...) but after a round along all the stands I had had enough of all those people.
Near Zeist is the town of Austerlitz, where an army camp was based during the French occupation in the early 19th century. After Napoleon's victory at Austerlitz in eastern Europe, the soldiers built an earth pyramid in his honour.
Since I was in the area anyway and I've been fascinated with Napoleon/the Empire era for ages, I decided to pop by. It was closed and undergoing reconstruction, but cool to see anyway.
