Humphrey's

Bank employees aren't opposed to their share of fun, so yesterday I went out to dinner with my old team at Humphrey's, a nice restaurant close to Hotel New York in Rotterdam.

Of course we had a really nice time with lots of good food, drink and conversation.

Long Live Bureaucracy

Mijn bezwaar is afgewezen. Waarom?

Echt ongelofelijk.

2 Days before I went on vacation the the States, I got a parking ticket. Even though I had paid, like any good citizen would do, and had the receipt to prove it too.
So I mailed out an notice of objection the very next day (it's not like I had anything better to do at that time - RIGHT?), including a copy of my receipt and photographic evidence that I had indeed posted the receipt behind windshield of my car.

When I got home yesterday and went through the mail from the last 2 weeks, I came across a letter from the City. My objection was rejected. Why? Because the ticket was in the UPPER LEFT corner and should have been in the LOWER RIGHT corner of the windshield. I swear I did not make this up. *SIGH*
(BTW - I checked the receipt and the parking ticket and neither states anything about the location where the receipt should be posted behind the windshield)

So... I went ahead and paid the ticket anyway. I could have appealed, brought it to court and all, but I have a feeling that would cost me a lot more than the EUR 53,40 of this ticket... But I still feel that this is so ultimately bureaucratic and UNJUST. Absolutely unbelievable.

I'm back!

Got home from my trip to the US this morning.
Saw a lot, did a lot... It feels like I need a vacation to recover *LOL*

Great to be sleeping in my own bed again (although the beds in the hotels we stayed in were very good), but the best news of all: all 4 of my guinea pigs are still alive! (there have been different circumstances in the past...) WOOHOO!

And that means: looking out for cavy no.5 shall commence!

Design Your Life - week 1

Cathy Zielske's online workshop at BPS has officially started and this week's theme is symmetry.
There are also assignments outside of the 'normal' curriculum, called Real World Color (RWC) and Real World Design (RWD). This is the 1st RWC-lay-out using a retro-ish color scheme (familiar photo, right??)

Back in the day

1,5 was.

Remember my friend who gave birth recently?
I was going through my parents' old slides today and came across this one. It's Nancy, approx. 30 years ago ;)

And being a good sport, here's one of me too. I think I'm about 1,5 years old here.
This one always makes me smile, 'cause it reminds me of Chucky from the movie Child's Play (although I do look a lot friendlier than Chucky ever did!)

First day of class

Yesterday was the first day on 2 courses I've signed up for:
- Design Your Life, an online class on Big Picture Scrapbooking, taught by Cathy Zielske (1 of my favorite scrappers)
- a first year course in Mandarin Chinese at the Volksuniversiteit Rotterdam (an institute that provides all kinds of non-academic courses).

Chinese? That's right! I want to visit China next year and would like to know some vocab as to not make me completely helpless (even though you are considered illiterate when you know less that, say, 4000 characters and we'll only learn about 400 this year...). Earlier this year a tried to home school myself but I guess I'm not disciplined enough, and this way I need to go to class every week which will hopefully work better for me.

Bonus: 1 of my fellow students is really cute... ;)
