Hats

Hier is mijn bijdrage:

It's very 'now' to use vintage pictures on cards or ATC's. A while back I surfed the internet to find nice pictures, and I've since made a couple of ATCs:

Angelic Love - Vintage Fairy - Veiled Beauty - Renaissance Queen

Achtergrondjes zijn met alcoholinkt gemaakt. Stempels van Hero Arts (tekst), Lost Coast Designs (Latijnse tekst), Tim Holz (swirl), Art Impressions (Love), Hampton Arts (cirkels) & Cherry Pie (spetters).

Eggs

It's almost Wednesday again, but here's a last minute contribution to this week's Wednesday Stamper.
Vintage photo plucked off the internet, spin & splash alcohol ink background, stamps by Cherry Pie and Artemio.
The colours are a bit more vibrant in real life than on the scan...

I caved...

Remember how I restrained myself last week and left Donner without any new books? Well, I wasn't as successfull this week... ;)

The loot?
Hannibal Rising by Thomas Harris (the 'prequel' to Silence of the Lambs) and Zoektocht in Katoren (literally translated: Search through Katoren) by Jan Terlouw. How to Become King was/is one of my alltime favourite young adult literature books and now, more than 30 years after the original was published, there is a sequel! I finished it in 1,5 days...

Addiction

I recently got myself a new toy: the Nintendo DS Lite. And today I got a new game, Zoo Tycoon. Can you spell 'addictive'??? I just played it from approx. 3 p.m. until 10.30 (!) p.m....

Jumpstyle

It's not my kind of music, but happened to walk passed the Jeckyll & Hyde performance on Binnenwegplein Friday evening and naturally had to take some pics...

Farewell party

Tonight we had a farewell party at work for all the colleagues who (voluntarily or not) left the bank during the recent reorganisation. Firtunately almost everyone was there. I'm going to miss some of them a lot, so hopefully we'll keep in touch!

Exams

Tonight were the exams for the course I'm taking at the Scheepvaart en Transport College. 7 subjects... Customs, Road transportation, Rail transportation, Sea shipping, Inland shipping, Air transportation and Port Significance & Organisation (loosely translated). I hadn't quite realised how much it actually was, which meant in hindsight I started studying way too late. I even read the last chapter (Customs) in the subway on my way to school... Of course this was the first subject on the exam... Nonetheless I feel pretty confident, except for Inland shipping. But hey, all I need is a 6 (C)...

Re-examinations are July 3rd, so the results should be in before then.

Thinking ahead

Went to see the preview of Shrek 3 yesterday. More or less by accident, 'cause I thought it had started playing in theaters as of last Thursday, while in fact it won't premier until this upcoming Thursday. I was surfing the net looking for a movieprogramme when I happened to notice that there was a preview in Spijkenisse on Saturday... Anyways, while Shrek 2 was on televison, I was at the cinema ;) It was a fun movie with lots of one-liners and visual jokes.

I'll probably be there more often this Summer: on June 28th Die Hard 4.0 will premier and on July 12th Harry Potter 5 (oh yes, 2007 is the year of the sequels...) Fortunately I live only 5 min. from the cinema ;) I'm especially excited about Harry Potter, and in addition I expect a package from Amazon with the last book in the series a week later (which I ordered way back in Februari - ahem...)

Today is Father's Day and we celebrated at my grandparents' house just like Mother's Day. It's a terrible luxury problem, but my father never knows what to ask... Luckily he just ran out of his Kouros aftershave, so I got him the small bottle (50ml). Hopefully it'll be empty by the time it's Christmas...

Polka dots

That's this week's theme at Wednesday Stamper, and I thought it was a tough one... Here's my contribution for this week, another simple white card.

Good cause

Dus: scrappers aller landen, verenigt u!

Outside it's slightly moist to say the least, but nevertheless Pien's Atelier started the Sunshine charity event. What does it entail? On July 7th you can participate in free workshops at Pien's scrapbook store in Rotterdam to make Sunshine mini albums. In November, all these mini albums are given to children at the hospital cancer ward to bring a little sunshine to their lives.

Of course the number of workshop attendees is limited and besides, not everybody is able to participate on July 7th. They thought of this too: there is a free online workshop on Pien's website, complete with instructions (in Dutch), step-by-step photo's and templates. The mini albums can be sent in until the end of October.

So: scrappers worldwide, unite!

Bag o' veggies

I'm not a veggie kind of girl. It sometimes happens that days go by without me touching any at all... In order to change this (and prevent my teeth falling out from scurvy...) I've tried a number of things: I collect vegetarian cookbooks for inspiration, and I eat lunch at the company restaurant regularly. But usually I fall back in the same veggie-less state after a couple of days...

My latest 'brainwave': a veggie subscription! Every week there's a bag of season produce waiting at the healthstore. It's a surprise what's in it, and to help you along they include several recipes. You can sign up for several different bags: for 1 or 2 persons, a family bag, fruit only etc.

But I know myself by now, and I tend to get very enthusiastic very quickly. Then, after a few days, I lose interest... So in order not to commit myself for too long a period at once, I decided to sign up for a 4-week trial subscription first.

Today I picked up my first bag, and I have to admit that I'm not at all disappointed. I initially thought that there might be all kinds of weird vegetables in it, but that wasn't the case. The bag included: Chinese cabbage, iceberg lettuce, a courgette, a sweet potato, 2 Royal Gala apples and a small mellon. I think I might be able to make this work! ;)

Victory

Walked passed Donner tonight after work. Had to go in of course, did some browsing, was temped but left the store WITHOUT HAVING BOUGHT ANYTHING!
Victory is mine!

Vet visit

Teddy (r) en Baloo loungend op een paar kussens / Teddy (r) and cage mate Baloo lounging on some pillows.

Yesterday and today was the first time in a long while ('cause: busybusybusy) that I took the time to cuddle with my cavies. I noticed that Teddy's hair had gotten thin (Teddy = most left cavy on my banner). Just in case I weighed her on the kitchen scale and she also seemed to have lost some weight (which I hadn't noticed yet due to all the hair she still DOES have...) Her behaviour is still normal, but it just didn't feel entirely right. Especially when I read in Diseases of Domestic Guinea Pigs that these are symptoms of ringworm, liver problems, hormonal problems etc. (again proving the point that you should never, ever read the information leaflet of drugs or any medical books because it will only make you feel sicker than you initially thought you were...)

Anyways, went to the vet today to make sure what it was. She even used a sonogram machine (!) to determine the problem and eventually diagnosed Teddy with an ovarian cyst. That also accounts for the hair loss. Advised treatment: none while she acts normally! Cavies don't react well to anaesthesia and should she even live through the surgery, the likelyhood of complications due to e.g. peritonitis is big.

So... I sort of have mixed feelings about the whole thing. On one hand I'm glad that she doesn't have a lifethreatening illness (yet at least), on the other hand it's a worrying thought that it might get worse in the (near) future... However, hopefully that will take a long time and until then my resolution is to cuddle the girls a lot more than I have been doing lately ;)

Flowers

A week in the life

Emily Adams's workshop was a lot of fun, she's such a nice person and we made a very cool accordion album. I was immediately inspired to make it into 'a-week-in-my-life'-album (something I've wanted to do for a while now), so I've been taking the most bizar pictures all week: from standing in a traffic jam, to riding the subway, to checking out my groceries at the supermarket... ;) All I have to do now is finish it!

Pirates etc.

Hier istie:

10 years later

Went to PotC 3 on Monday night as already mentioned. Lengthy movie, great special effects, Ben & Jerry ice cream and a fair share of gorgeous men ;) I won’t spoil too much but I thought the end was, um, not very satisfying! Open ending (so perhaps there’ll be another sequel!) but I was disappointed by the fate of some characters ! (although I have to admit I’m kind of prejudiced when it comes to Orlando… ;) )

Edited: Guess what? There was 1 last scene after the credits that we missed 'cause we'd already left... I can appreciate the ending a bit more now...

Visted a friend yesterday who celebrated her birthday. Got to see some of my friends again, which unfortunately doesn’t happen a lot lately. We agreed that we should plan a girl’s day out soon, just the 7 of us, no husbands, boyfriends, kids and the like. It will be difficult to plan a date with all the work, hockey games, moving, holidays, courses and childbearing that’s about to take place in the upcoming months but at least everyone was enthusiastic about the idea.

Today is all about doing laundry, working on Circle Journals, cooking pom (a Suriname chicken casserole) and cleaning cavy cages.

Tomorrow’s a busy day as well: work until 13.30hrs, attend a workshop by Emily Adams at Pien's Atelier and finally go to the het Scheepvaart en Transport Collegefor my final class of the course. Exams are June 19th, so I have 2 weeks of studying to look forward to…

By the way, finished one of my 3 new books: Sonny Boy by Annejet van der Zijl. Highly recommended!
I seem to be reading a lot of non-fiction these days: also read 'Een goede man slaat soms zijn vrouw' (literally: a good man sometimes hits his wife), 'Het zijn net mensen' (literally: they're just like people), both by Joris Luyendijk and 'El Negro en ik' (literally: El Negro and I) by Frank Westerman in the last few weeks.

This week's challenge on Wednesday Stamper is Door. Tough assignment, and instead of working with doors in the 'gateway'-sense, I chose the band the Doors as inspiration.

I had wanted to do something grungy-ish for a while. The background was made using a craftsheet and alcohol ink (denim, meadow, bottle). The text are lines from a poem by William Blake, from which the band picked their name. The picture is a scanned photo of Jim Morrison that I converted in Photoshop using the stamp filter. In addition I used stamps from Club Scrap, Stampers Anonymous and Cherry Pie.
