House hunting

Eén van mijn goede voornemens voor 2009 is verkassen naar een ander huis. Een vriendin attendeerde me erop dat het huis naast haar te koop staat, of dat niks voor me zou zijn?

Eerst wezen praten met de bank wat voor hypotheek ik zo kunnen krijgen (viel niet tegen!), toen een afspraak gemaakt met de makelaar en vandaag dus even gaan kijken.



Ik had wat veelbelovende foto's van de binnenkant gezien, en dan kan het natuurlijk bijna niet anders dan dat het in het echie tegenvalt...

Dus nu alles op een rijtje gaan zetten: wat moet eraan geklust worden? Wat gaat dat kosten? Past het binnen mijn budget? Vind ik dat het waard? Hoe lang gaat dat duren? Moet ik misschien toch nog even verder kijken??


One of my New Year's resolutions for 2009 is moving to another house. A friend pointed out that the house next to hers is on the market and wondered whether it might be something for me.

Made an appointment with the bank to talk about mortgages (went well!), then called the realtor to view the house, which we arranged for today.

I'd seen some promising pictures online, so it should not have been a surprise when the real thing was a bit disappointing...

Na de boeken en de film was het tijd voor muziek: de Twilight soundtrack. En ik heb er meteen een nieuwe obsessie bij: Muse. Al ken ik slechts 1 liedje van ze, Supermassive Black Hole.

Mijn soort muziek: stevige beats en snerpende gitaren :)
(al is de video niet helemaal mijn ding...)


Ook Robert Pattinson heeft een nummer op de soundtrack - Never Think.
Helemaal niet onaardig! Beetje folk-, country-achtig.



After having read the books and having seen the movie (twice!), it was time for some music. So I got the Twilight soundtrack. Which brought on an entirely NEW obsession: Muse, even though I only know 1 of their songs, Supermassive Black Hole.

It totally rocks! My type of music: beating drums and screaming guitars :)
(although I must admit the music video isn't really my taste...)

Robert Pattinson also has a song on the soundtrack - Never Think.
Not bad at all, a bit folksy, country & western-y...

Ice fever

Geef Nederland een paar koude dagen en de bevolking wordt gek... Door heel het land worden verschillende ijstochten geörganiseerd en het gaat alleen nog maar over de dikte van het ijs en hoe lang het blijft vriezen.

We zijn zelfs wereldnieuws!

Give the Dutch a few cold days and people go nuts... Throughout the country, skating tours are being organized and the main topic of conversation is the thickness of the ice and how long this cold spell will continue.

We even made worldnews!

Guess what? It isn't B12 after all...

Vandaag opnieuw een afspraak met de internist om de uitslagen van het bloedonderzoek van 12 december te bespreken.

Wat blijkt? Hoewel mijn waarden voor B12 aan de lage kant zijn, is dat waarschijnlijk niet het probleem. Mijn vitamine D blijkt nl. veel te laag!
Nu vermijd ik de zon zoveel mogelijk i.v.m. een verhoogd risico op huidkanker (met sproeten, rood haar en een lichte huid heb je daar ong. 10x zoveel kans op), maar het lijkt dus een beetje te zijn doorgeslagen naar de andere kant... Dus: vitamine-pilletjes, véél naar buiten en regelmatig vette vis eten is het devies.

Over 3 maanden word ik weer in het ziekenhuis terug verwacht voor controle.

Went to the hospital again today for the results of my last bloodtests.

Guess what? Although my B12-levels are a on the lower end of the scale, it probably isn't what is causing the problems. It turns out my vitamin D levels are way too low!
Ironically I try to stay out of the sun as much as possible since, being a freckled redhead, I run about 10x more risk to develop skin cancer. It appears I've been a bit TOO carefull though... So: vitamin pills, sunshine and oily fish it is.

I have another appointment in 3 months to see if things have improved.

Twilight - again :)

Toen ik vorige week tegen Jessica en Alexandra vertelde dat ik naar 'Twilight' was geweest, was hun eerste reactie: "Daar wil ik ook naartoe!".
Nu had ik toen al overwogen om ze mee te vragen, maar ik was er vanuit gegaan dat ze niet geïnteresseerd zouden zijn... (Fout ingecalculeerd dus)
Daarom gisteren afgesproken om alsnog met z'n 3-en te gaan, want ik had er ab-so-luut geen probleem mee om nog eens 2 uur tegen Robert Pattinson aan te moeten kijken hahaha! (zo ben ik nu eenmaal - ik offer mezelf wel op :) )

Eerst bij Alexandra gecropt en gegeten en toen op naar de bioscoop.

Afijn, het viel hen ook niet tegen (Alexandra wil nu ook de boeken lezen om te weten hoe het verder gaat - another one bites the dust heheheh) en dus ziet het ernaar uit dat we de komende 2 jaar een 'date' hebben om de volgende delen ook te gaan zien :)

O ja, en ik zei toch dat 'ie me aan James Dean deed denken??

When I told Jessica and Alexandra last week that I went to see 'Twilight', both their reactions were: "I want to see it too!"
I had actually thought of asking them to come along at the time, but I figured they wouldn't be interested anyway... (Guess I was wrong)
So the 3 of us arranged to go yesterday, because I had ab-so-lute-ly NO problem with seeing Robert Pattinson again for another 2 hours hahaha! (that's me - self-sacrificing and all :) )

We first went to Alexandra's to crop and have dinner and then went to the theater.

They liked the movie too (Alexandra now wants to read the books as well - just to know what will happen. Another one bites the dust heheheh) and it seems we'll have 'dates' for the next two years to see the sequels :)

On a side note: didn't I mention that he reminded me of James Dean??
Well, spot the differences...
Let's just hope he'll be around for a lot longer than James Dean ever was!

New Year's Resolutions

1) afvallen - ben daar een paar weken geleden al mee begonnen door opnieuw naar de Weight Watchers te gaan. De score tot nu toe: 3 kilo eraf in 4 weken.
2) verhuizen - koop of huur, dat maakt me niet uit, maar ik ben m'n buren flink zat aan het worden dus tijd om na 7 jaar eens voor iets anders te gaan kijken...
Als dit wat wordt, zal m'n geplande vakantie naar China niet door kunnen gaan...

1) lose weight - I already started with the Weight Watchers program a few weeks ago and so far lost 6 lbs in 4 weeks.
2) move - buying or renting, I don't care either way, but I'm really starting to feel fed up with my neighbours so perhaps it's time to move on after 7 years...
Which of course means, that, if I DO decide to move this year, the trip to China that I have been planning is out of the question...
